Spirit Pathways

Jason Lockyer
This work carries the spirit of my country — a story of belonging, of resilience, and of life’s deeper connections beneath the vibrant landscape I call home.
In the deep red land of the Pilbara, where the stories of my ancestors are held in the heartbeat of my country, this artwork tells a story of connection and kinship. The tall, slender figures represent my people—mothers, fathers, children—standing strong amidst the swirling energy of our land.
The vibrant pink and red swirls mirror the natural spirits path that dance across the country and into our lives. The figures are connected by these invisible pathways, telling stories of passing knowledge from generation to generation, of ancestors watching over us, guiding us.
Each line, each form speaks of my community — how we walk together, share stories, and uphold our culture. The figures are humble, but their presence is powerful, reminding us that we are part of the land’s everlasting story, woven through time by the spirits of our ancestors.
