Waterhole Light

Jason Lockyer
On Robe River Kuruma Country, when I was a younger, my family would take me to the waterholes in Bungaroo. These places were full of life and quiet beauty, the surface glowing under the moon and reflecting the stars.
The waterholes are all but gone now, but this painting is my memory of them—yellow ripples moving outward, the still blue centre holding the spirit of the place. It’s a reminder of what was, and the deep connection we carry to the water and the land, even when it’s gone.
