Clay Pans

Artist
Kaye Warrie
We used to always go out bush with our mum and dad. We would drive across the clay pans. It was tricky not to get bogged, but we got bogged all the time. We would get out and walk around and look at the plants. We would find bush onions and see Sturt Peas all around. We would have to camp out. Dad always knew where to find water. He would find a dry river bed and dig a hole and clean fresh water would come up. Bush tucker out there - kangaroo, bush plants and milinja (fish), so we'd never run out of food anywhere. We would camp right where we broke down.
